SLG Criminal Law Group was founded by Mr. Spiegel, who has devoted his energies to criminal defense work since he began practicing law.  Matthew started the firm after working for years with the largest criminal defense law firm in San Diego.  Combining the skills and experience he gained, first as an associate with an established firm, and then striking out on his own, he has become renowned in southern California as an aggressive, successful lawyer who fights for the rights of his clients.

Mr. Spiegel’s experience extends to a wide range of criminal cases, both felonies and misdemeanors.  Among them are DUI (drunk driving), murder, drug crimes (including possession of illegal drugs), sex crimes, child abuse, theft crimes (including burglary and robbery), assault, and others.  Matthew’s experience with the defense of DUI charges is particularly impressive, having defended over 400 clients charged with driving under the influence.  He is not afraid to go to trial when it serves his client’s interests to do so, and he has tried many cases before a jury, obtaining numerous verdicts of not guilty.

In the process of developing and expanding his criminal law practice, Mr. Spiegel has received substantial media attention, including being featured on television news broadcasts, and speaking on local radio stations.  His handling of high profile cases has also generated much public interest.  A graduate of Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, Matthew attended law school on a scholarship, and was drawn immediately to criminal law, an area in which he excelled.  During the early years of his practice, he was honored by The Daily Transcript with its “Young Attorneys” award, which recognizes “some of the brightest up-and-coming” attorneys in the legal community.

Ryan Tegnelia is Of Counsel to SLG Criminal Law Group.  A former prosecutor, Mr. Tegnelia has represented clients charged with a wide variety of criminal offenses in California.  Prior to joining SLG Criminal Law Group, Ryan was employed by the largest consumer and criminal law firm in southern California.  He has defended hundreds of clients charged with misdemeanors and felonies in the counties of Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, San Diego and Riverside.  His experience extends to both state and federal court, and includes defense of drug crimes (possession and sale), assault (including assault with a deadly weapon), attempted murder, sexual assault and financial (white collar) crimes (including, credit card fraud, check fraud, real estate fraud and identity theft).

Mr. Tegnelia is a 2005 graduate of the Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego.  In addition to his membership in the State Bar of California and the San Diego Bar Association, he is admitted to practice in the Federal District Court for the Southern District of California.
